Ol, Ollie, Fat-lad, whatever you want to call him, qualified as an ADI in 2021 after training initially with a National Driving School and then a Local Driving School.
Ol quickly realised his philosophy was different to others. He wanted to make a difference and instead of the lip service other schools spoke, he believed that Client Centred Learning and creating a fun learning environment should be actually implemented.
He subsequently went on to set up Oh Savvy which is widely regarded as the number 1 driving school in the area.
Q: Everyone is unique, tell me something about you that’s different to everybody else…
A: I’ve never had a cup of tea. I have no idea what it tastes like and don’t wish to know!
Q: Burgers are the greatest food invented, where do you go when you want to eat God’s food?
A: Dope Burger. I must’ve been 100 times but I’ve only ever had 1 burger; Leroys Chilli Beef. I have no idea how anything could be better.
Q: If you weren’t a driving instructor, what would you be?
A: I’d be a stunt man. It’s basically the same thing but you get paid more.
Q: Do you enjoy your job?
A: Absolutely love it. My only gripe is how learners are treated by other road users. Appalling if you were wondering!
Q: If you could take 3 things to a desert island, what would you take?
A: A comfortable bed, a supply of burgers and a helicopter for when I’ve had enough!
Q: What’s the funniest thing a learner has said?
A: One girl said her lesson was “like driving simulator “ which tickled me a little 🤣
Q: What makes a good driver?
A: Patience and a calm disposition. Driving requires rational thinking and quick decision making. So chill ya beans and get there in one piece!
Q: How do you wind down after a busy week?
A: I play pool badly and darts even worse.
Q: What are your weaknesses?
A: My arms. My legs have to carry me around so they’re strong as an ox.
Q: What music do you listen to?
A: I’m a massive music fan and literally listen to everything from Eminem to Meatloaf to Arctic Monkeys. If my radio was stuck on one station, I’d want it to be Heart 90’s.
Q: What’s the best and worst parts of your job?
A: The best part is when an older learner passes. Someone who is perhaps over 25 with a young family and a license is going to transform theirs and their children’s lives. I love every pass of course but for the youngsters it’s not really a case of If, but when. Older learners often never really believed they could do it and when they do it’s magical.
The worst part of the job is not a test fail as you might expect, but having to have a conversation when a learner is not yet ready for their test.
Q: Finally, have your learners ever taught you anything?
A: All of the time. My favourite pointless fact from a learner is that a 1000 piece jigsaw has 1026 pieces.
Q: Everyone is unique, tell me something about you that’s different to everybody else…
A: I’m just not normal. (Adele didn’t answer this one so Ol answered for her!)

A: Has to be Dope Burger for God’s food however, I am partial to Asian cuisine so alternative God’s food would be bao buns for me.
Q: If you weren’t a driving instructor, what would you be?
A: I’m not sure. I’m a people person and like to see people succeed so anything involving people and them achieving. Or demolition. I like tools 🤣
Q: Do you enjoy your job?
A: I absolutely love my job. Some days are harder than others as with most jobs but I can’t see myself anywhere else.
Q: If you could take 3 things to a desert island, what would you take?
A: A boat to escape in. A ball to call Wilson if my boat didn’t work out and some red wine to cheer me up.
Q: What’s the funniest thing a learner has said?
A: “When I pass I’m going to Wales, will I need to renew my passport?”
Q: What makes a good driver?
A: Someone who is aware of theirs and others actions/surroundings and how either would affect the other whilst being able to deal with it safely.
Q: How do you wind down after a busy week?
A: I work 7 days so my weeks don’t end. I go on holiday to recoup my weekends. Everyone feels better after some Sun.
Q: What are your weaknesses?
A: Injured animals and my inability to say no. I just want to help everyone and see them happy.
Q: What music do you listen to?
A: I listen to all sorts. I have quite the eclectic taste in music although, my son’s music is not high on my list of faves. So, most music, just not his.
Q: What’s the best and worst parts of your job?
A: The best part is

Q: Finally, have your learners ever taught you anything?
A: My learners have taught me patience and a great recipe for tzatziki. Let me know if you‘d like it.
